Just a quick note to let you know that EMC Consulting is hiring within the Cloud & Virtual Data Center practice. I joined EMC Consulting in early October, and I’m very glad that I did. I’ve met a number of terrific professionals within the IT transformation space, and I’ve had an opportunity to influence the direction that a number of organizations have taken with regards to implementing organizational change within their IT departments.
You might be wondering what it’s like to work for EMC Consulting. First off, let me be clear that you’ll need to have an expectation for 70-80% (or more) travel, and may include international travel as our practice grows. EMC did a great job of setting my expectations in this regard; I believe that it was mentioned at every step of the interview process. Second, you’ll be working for a leader in the storage space, and as such you’ll have access to all of the resources & talent that you need while you help grow the business, drive organizational transformation, and serve your clients with excellence. Third, you’ll work alongside other great people within the virtualization community: clients, consultants, and other great folks from the likes of EMC, VMware, Cisco, VCE, and more. Fourth and, in my mind, most importantly, your job will be to serve the client through a long-term personal relationship based on trust, integrity, and professionalism. I’m sure we’ve all had our experiences, from one side of the table or another, with sales folks that appear to only be interested in serving their needs & sales goals rather than truly understanding what the customer needs and helping them get there. That is absolutely not the case here; rather, it is to fully understand the client’s vision and make a sound technical or architectural recommendation based on what will serve them best.
What do you mean ‘organizational transformation’?
I understand that the phrase “organizational transformation” might bring images of buzzword bingo and such to mind, and that’s OK. Honestly, I wish there were a more succinct way to describe the work we’re doing without sounding like a string of buzzwords. At its core, though, it’s exactly what we’re doing — working alongside executives and staff from major companies to help them understand where they are, where they want to go, and how to go there — all while reducing capital and operational expenses as they align their IT departments to better serve their business.
So what does that “look like” in practice? Imagine a multinational corporation who’s way of “doing IT” isn’t working the way that it needs to; an organization that is disconnected from the needs of the business. We’ve all been there, right? At the very least, you’ve heard of organizations like that. 🙂 Well imagine if you were part of the change; not only becoming fluent in where they’ve been and where they’re going, but also helping to deliver that solution in a timely manner. Or, imagine a company that needs to implement a new product or external service as part of strategic innovation within their market. You could play a role in helping them get there.
If this sounds exciting to you, then please consider getting in touch with me. I’d love to talk more about it with you, and get you directly connected to a recruiter. Please feel free to hit me up on LinkedIn, or Twitter. This could be the next great adventure in your career! 🙂
